Why Speed Dating?

When you are in the Single Scene - anything that gets you to meet other singles in my opinion is great - whether it is a dating site or an organised single's event.

Speed dating is a lot of fun - all you need to do is approach it with the right attitude and that is the mindset of “This is different and who knows what will come of it!” You have anywhere between 5 or 15 minutes to connect with someone before you move-on to meeting the next person. Now, that is really exciting when you think about it.

Okay, so let's not get into the mechanics of how the night goes - your Event Manger will explain all this to you - what I would like to cover here are some ideas on how you can get the best out of your evening and how to connect with everyone you meet.

Let's look at a quick check list for you to create the best impression:

1.    Make sure that your perfume or aftershave is subtle. The last thing you want is for the person you are connecting with to feel over-powered by your scent and be oblivious to what you are saying.

2.    Dress to impress - however, for the ladies if you wish the person on the other side of the table to look into your eyes and not your chest - perhaps you should leave the revealing tops and dresses for another occasion. Remember you are moving from chair to chair so clothes that are “fashionably-too-tight” may prove to be uncomfortable.

3.    Make sure you have a breath mint before you sit down - bad breath is off-putting to everyone. Chewing gum is not really a good look either.

4.    Look the other person in the eyes and smile. It will make them and you feel more comfortable and it's a great way to connect.

5.    Say hello and shake their hand, another great way to break the ice and connect.

Some of these things may sound like common sense - however, when you are feeling a little nervous - sometimes we forget so, these are just a few reminders for you.

Some Questions to ask to get a feel for the person who is infront of you:

1.    Describe in a few words (remember you don't have much time) what you are passionate about in life?

2.     Do you have a favorite charity you donate too and why did you choose that one?

3.    Do you like animals and do you have any?

4.    What type of music do you like and do you go too live gigs very often?

5.    Do you read and what types of books or magazines are you interested in?

6.    Do you like sport - what type?

7.    Do you have a hobby?

These question are fairly basic however, it will give you a feel for the type of person you are speaking with and the type of likes, dislikes and lifestyle they have - all very important if you wish to see them again.

“Deal-Breaker” Questions

1.    Do you smoke?

2.    Do you have Children - if so, how often do you have them and how old are they?

3.    Are you single?

4.    Are you looking for a monogamous relationship?

5.    Are you looking for a relationship?

You may be a little surprised by me suggesting you ask these questions. They are delicate and should be asked in a sincere fashion with full eye contact. These questions really are important and you need to know the answers to them so that you can establish if this person is in the same space that you are.

So, with these few tips in mind - go out there and speed your way through a great night - if you never do it - you will never know what could have been possible for you!
